This is a comment from my discussion group on linkedin. The discussion is Time for your real-life strategies on Climate Change or not!  I have been following this disucssion with some regularity, it is an opportunity for people to write about what they have done, or are in the process of doing, or in the case of this next posting - calling us out.
The writer says we have to stop bickering and laying blame and get to it.  The global initiative of stopping pollution, reducing the ghg emissions, and stop depleating our resources should be our only priority, not the stories we tell ourselves and each other that we do it because it is green and the right thing to do.  Our very survival depends on it.

"We can argue about the cause of Climate Change all we want but WHY?!?!?! It is NOT that important. The climate is changing. That is the point. What is causing the climate to change is not meaningful. If we spend all of our time trying to discuss what is causing the climate change, by the time we end that argument (if we ever do) it will be to late to do something about it.
Lets accept for now that the climate is changing. That will cause ice to melt, sea level to rise, hence low lying areas to be flooded and will profoundly change life on this planet. Is this the cause of increased solar activity, cow burps, burning old tires? Who cares!!! WRONG Argument.
Now what can we do to reduce the impact of climate change? Well, we humans are the only species on the planet that can actually "Think", develop a plan, communicate it to others and put it in effect. Therefore, we have an obligation to do something about it no matter the cause.
Now for those of you who still want to argue about the cause... lets take a different path: What is good for the Environment is also good for the economy. And I dont mean the Macro economy. I am talking about individual businesses. One of our Clients reduced their carbon production by more than 100 TONS per year. In doing so, they reduced their energy consumption by more than 20%. That impacted their bottom line by INCREASING the profits by $250,000 per YEAR. Why did they do this? Did they feel some deep urge to save the world by reducing their carbon footprint? No. Few companies do, most that say they do, dont. They wanted to increase their profits in this messed up economy. They had a huge positive impact on their profits. When we mentioned to them the carbon avoidance, their response was: What is it worth? How much money can we sell this for? it was NOT: Gee, arent we nice and green and wonderful people to save the world.
Lets stop the dumb argument of Why and concentrate on Why NOT!"
